Ear Cinema - multi-disciplinary arts project presents ‘Late Noon Sun’
Jan 2009, London
Ear Cinema is a multi-disciplinary arts project combining three different artforms, namely film/animation, live performance and sound art, to create what we are referring to as an ‘Immersive Installation’
The piece involves four large canvas screens placed to make a 8 metre cube. Four projectors simultaneously run a combination of animation/film work and 2 performers act out various characters in front of the screens in real-time accentuating the narrative. Eight speakers are placed in a cube form to create a 3D sound environment known as ambisonics where a dynamic control of sound and music within the cube is achievable. Audiences are invited to stand between the four screens to experience the piece and using our current screen dimensions, we can incorporate a maximum of 40 audience members per viewing. (please refer to the tech spec for a detailed overview)
The project has been devised and produced by London based artist Wajid Yaseen and has been running since 2007. Various artists ranging from film makers, sound designers and performers have been invited to work collaboratively within the Ear Cinema architecture and 3 complete projects have been produced to-date.
Current Project :
Ear Cinema’s artist director and sound designer, Wajid Yaseen invited the acclaimed, award winning, film-maker Lizzie Oxby to direct and devise a film based on Alice Kemp’s poetic story. Following on from their sellout previous shows, ‘Late Noon Sun’ revisits a sinister tale to try and unravel a haunting, dark mystery with beautifully integrated live stage performances by Dagmara Bilon, Agnieszka Kapuscinska and Alice Tatge (please refer to the People Involved section on the website since this project has involved a number of artists and production crew). Performed at the ICA Gallery, London Nov 2008, Arnolfini, Bristol Nov 2008, Salisbury Arts Centre, Jan 2009, and scheduled for performances at Shunt, London Feb 2009 and Colchester Arts Centre, Feb 2009 (please refer to Performances on the website for details of venues and dates)
quote from the film :
‘Washing sails like old flags of grey nations….a woman in a headscarf thinks about nothing in particular as she moves cloth over window sill…..a potted plant falls and smashes. She’s got a sour affectation - everyone around here’s tasted it. She waits, recalling prime numbered pages of the Fact Book of Fiction … a flesh net glove … that which must be destroyed…..’
Previous Projects :
The Lodger : animation by Paul Barritt and live performance by Suzanne Andrade and Esme
Appleton. Performed at the Battersea Arts Centre, London, May 2007
Little Mary : animation by Paul Barritt and live performance by Dagmara Bilon and Alice
